Coco
pops out of training as Italian casualties mount
MILAN, April 16 (AFP)
Barcelona and Italy player Francesco Coco
had to withdraw from training Tuesday and is now doubtful for Wednesday's
friendly international with Uruguay at the San Siro Stadium, ANSA news
agency reported.
Coco pulled up with a strained right ankle
after a training ground collision with Gennaro Gattuso of AC Milan at the
Milanello training camp normally used by AC Milan but taken over by Italy
before Wednesday's match.
It is not yet clear if Coco will be able
to feature in the game but a dressing was immediately applied to the injury
and he had to limp off.
Italy coach Giovanni Trapatonni was so
short of players that he had to replace Coco in the practice match, drawing
applause with some fine ball skills.
Earlier Tuesday Atalanta player Cristiano
Doni has pulled out with muscle problems and will be unable to line up
in Italy's last home friendly before the World Cup.
Doni has only forced his way into contention
this year in a season that has seen him net 16 goals for his club in Serie
A and he made a goalscoring debut for the 'Azzurri' in November's 1-1 friendly
draw with Japan.
Doni and Coco join a lengthy list of casualties
including Inter Milan pair Marco Materazzi and Christian Vieri, Mark Iuliano
of Juventus and Demetrio Albertini of AC Milan.
AS Roma striker Marco Delvecchio has also
been unable to train normally but of the injured players only Albertini
will miss the World Cup.
